Dunedin's Parks and Recreation

The City of Dunedin is packed full of fun things to do and one thing it definitely does not lack is parks. Parks are prevalent throughout the town of Dunedin providing pleasant areas for individuals and families to gather, play, relax, and take part in many recreational opportunities. Dunedin parks are known for beautiful surroundings and many natural habitats that are home to varieties of Florida wildlife. The best thing about Dunedin parks is they are different from one another, each with their own characteristics, offering a wide array of activities in different settings.

Honeymoon Island State Park

Honeymoon Island State Park combines the natural surroundings of a wildlife preserve with a beautiful beach complete with sand, sea, and sunshine. In addition to the main beach, there is a nature trail for you wildlife viewing pleasure and a dog beach for you to run and play with your best friend.  Honeymoon Island State Park is a National Gold Metal Winner and was voted "America's Best Park" over all other State Park systems.  In addition, Honeymoon Island is American's first 2 time winner for this award.

Honeymoon Island State Park is not the only waterfront park in Dunedin. Edgewater park, located at the Dunedin Marina just off Main Street, allows you to view the beauty of the Gulf as you take a stroll along the boardwalk watching the boats come and go. The pirate ship playground is a hit with the little ones and the wide open field allows you to partake in your favorite sporting activities. You may actually catch some exciting entertainment held in the events gazebo located on park grounds.

Pinellas Trail

The Pinellas Trail is probably one of the most unique parks located in Dunedin, expanding the entire length of the city as well as within cities north and south. This is a great way to view some of Dunedin's residential areas along the trail, and with the Gulf located across the main roadway, you'll be sure to take in some fresh air along the way. Everyday you can observe people biking, jogging, roller blading, and walking the trail as it runs along the edge of residential communities and stretches through shaded tree-lined paths. Other parks are located directly off of the Pinellas Trail and provide other “off road” trails of different terrain for mountain bikers to enjoy.

Highlander Park

Highlander Park is a traditional park setting with a non-traditional feel. The playground located here was built with a child's imagination in mind, boasting bright colors and different varieties of fun things to do from climbing to crawling and everything in between. The playground itself is gated in so that the parents' minds are at ease while their children play. For the parents and other individuals alike, there is a community center offering classes and aerobic activities among many other things to take part in. Aside from the playground and community center, there are walkways where you can wander through the park and take in the scenery or gaze upon the ducks swimming in the nearby pond.

No matter what your activity level, be it sitting and relaxing under a tree, taking an enjoyable walk, or biking off the beaten path, you are sure to find your something to delight in at a Dunedin park.
